Xarelto Lawsuits Continue to Climb in Federal MDL

After hundreds of Xarelto bleeding lawsuits were filed against Bayer Healthcare and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, even more suits are joining the consolidated multi-district litigation (“MDL”). An MDL is a tool courts use to centralize and combine lawsuits alleging similar claims for the purpose of expediting pre-trial proceedings and lowering associated expenses. The latest case to join the Xarelto MDL was filed by Mary Lou Garza, who, like many others, is alleging that the gastrointestinal bleeding that caused her husband’s death was due to the dangerous, unknown side-effects of the anticoagulant. According to the suit, Garza claims the drug’s warning label did not adequate relay its bleeding risks, and coupled with the lack of an antidote, made for a fatal combination.
