Serious Heart Conditions Side Effects of Levaquin and Avelox

A 2015 study published in Cardiovascular Therapeutics medical journal found that fluoroquinolone (FLQ) antibiotics, such as Levaquin and Avelox, can be linked to serious heart rhythm problems. Researchers from the University of Cincinnati and Texas Tech University determined that 70% of patients who experienced heart rhythm problems after using these drugs already had several risk factors for heart arrhythmia diseases, and recommended that doctors should be more aware of the exacerbating effect before writing prescriptions. Rexar, a similar FLQ, was even pulled from the market due to these same serious heart-related problems. Antibiotic-induced cardiac arrhythmias and other dangerous side effects of Avelox and Levaquin, including peripheral neuropathy, are calling into question the safety of these drugs—and why they too haven’t been pulled from the market.
