Plaintiffs Seek to Consolidate Xarelto Complaints to Benefit Victims, Drugmakers Oppose

To date, more than 30 cases have been filed by plaintiffs who suffered major bleeding injuries after taking Xarelto. Attorneys representing Bayer and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the companies responsible for developing and marketing the drug, are seeking to block the injured plaintiffs from consolidating these cases into multi-district litigation before U.S. District Judge David Herndon in the Southern District of Illinois—the same judge that presided over the combined Pradaxa lawsuits that resulted in a $650 million settlement over similar claims. Having Judge Herndon oversee the Xarelto cases may help expedite the cases. The motion for consolidation will be argued in December of this year.
