Multi-District Litigation Status Granted in Elmiron Litigation

In the latest news in the Elmiron litigation, the U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation (JPML) has approved all Elmiron lawsuits to be consolidated in the District of New Jersey before Brian R. Martinotti. This tactic, called a multi-district litigation, or MDL, consolidates cases that allege similar claims to expedite pretrial proceedings and eliminate duplicative discovery efforts.  In the Elmiron litigation, plaintiffs allege that the medication’s manufacturer, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, failed to warn patients that Elmiron may cause potentially permanent vision loss or vision damage, including pigmentary maculopathy. This condition impacts the part of the eye that processes light.
