In an MDL first, Women Make up Majority of Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee – Female Attorneys to Lead Morcellator PSC
Just weeks after the Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation approved of a power morcellator MDL last month to be centralized in Kansas, presiding U.S. District Judge Kathryn Vratil has announced her Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee appointments—and for the first time in this kind of litigation, the majority of the Committee is female. Grant & Eisenhofer’s Beth Graham has been selected as one of the 11 female Committee members that will help guide the course of the litigation against Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon power morcellators, gynecological devices used in fibroid removal surgeries that have been linked to spreading undetected, aggressive uterine cancer in women. About 50 lawsuits have been filed in federal and state courts nationwide against several makers of morcellators, mostly against Ethicon, including several by Grant & Eisenhofer.
