Man Claims Xarelto Caused Life-Threatening Internal Bleeding

In March 2016, a man filed a lawsuit against Xarelto’s manufacturers Bayer Healthcare and Johnson & Johnson, alleging that the blood thinner caused life-threatening complications.  In a complaint filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, Thomas Coe claims that he took Xarelto for ten months during 2013-2014 and subsequently suffered life-threatening bleeding and a subdural hematoma. Furthermore, Mr. Coe alleges that the manufacturers failed to adequately warn consumers that Xarelto has no antidote to stop the blood thinning effects in case of an emergency.

This lawsuit is one of approximately 4,500 filed against Xarelto’s manufacturers as part of a multi-district litigation (“MDL”) centralized in the Eastern District of Louisiana. Grant & Eisenhofer, a plaintiffs’ law firm involved in the Bellwether Selection Committee and co-lead of the Law & Briefing Committee of the Xarelto MDL, has filed numerous complaints on behalf of individuals who have suffered from Bayer and Johnson & Johnson’s alleged negligence.
