Lawsuit: Morcellator Spread Lethal Cancer
When Michael Watkins’ mother underwent a procedure to remove uterine fibroids in May 2011, the family had no idea that the medical device used during surgery spread dangerous cancer throughout her abdomen. Less than a week after the surgery, Watkins’ mother was diagnosed with adenosarcoma and sarcomatous, rare and aggressive cancers that led to her death nearly one year later. The Watkins family has filed a lawsuit against the makers of the power morcellator that was used during the surgery. As consensus grows among the medical community deeming the devices too risky to use in future operations due to the spread of undetected cancer, patients and their families who have already experienced the harmful side effects of morcellators are now accusing device manufacturers of failing to warn them about the dangers of the operation and concealment of these risks.
