Key Evidence Uncovered in GM Ignition Switch Cover Up
Documents produced in a lawsuit over a General Motors ignition switch-related fatality may reveal that a “massive cover-up” is at the heart of one of the largest auto safety scandals in history. While internal reviews published by GM and its counsel have concluded that mere irresponsibility, negligence, and inefficiency are to blame for failures to recognize and handle the ignition switch defect, correspondence between the company and outside law firms provide evidence that auto engineers and counsel were aware of the defect, and conspired to hide this information from the public and safety regulators for years. These discoveries will be submitted as evidence into the massive ignition switch multi-district litigation, potentially benefitting thousands of other victims. As depositions of key defendants loom this spring 2015, further information will be revealed about the extent of what senior management knew, when they knew it, and the lengths they potentially went to cover it up.
