Grant & Eisenhofer Lead Counsel in Petition on HIV Medication Lawsuit; Cases to be Centralized

Personal injury lawsuits, filed on behalf of hundreds of patients injured by Gilead’s HIV medications containing tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) antiviral medications, are slated to be coordinated in a single California state court action. The Foster City, Calif.-based pharma’s petition for dismissal was denied by the court, and now, the cases are headed towards coordination and trials.

Plaintiffs allege that, for more than a decade, Gilead withheld from sale a medication for HIV treatment that was safer and more effective than the drug the company promoted on the market at the time. The drugs, namely Viread, Tenofovir, Atripla, Complera and Stribild, caused toxicity to kidneys, bones, and teeth, and in some cases caused kidney failure and profound weakening of bones and/or teeth.

Plaintiffs’ firm Grant & Eisenhofer is lead counsel in the petition now pending before the California Judicial Council in San Francisco.
