GM Rings in 2015 with Three New Recalls
General Motors is kicking off 2015 with three more recalls, all involving the ignition design of several SUV and pickup truck models. GM’s disastrous 2014 was marked by the recall of millions of vehicles, thousands of injury claims, and over 40 deaths that were all related to a faulty ignition key system which GM was privy to for over a decade. The new recalls, effecting over 83,000 vehicles, relate to an outsized ignition lock actuator that can cause the ignition key to get stuck in the “start” position. When driven, the ignition lock cylinder could slip to the “accessory” position if the vehicle experiences a “significant jarring event,” rendering power systems useless.
