Email Exchanges between General Motors and Supplier Spark Questions
Emails recently surfaced between General Motors and parts supplier Delphi Automotive, raising numerous questions over the handling of the ignition switch recall scandal. A full 117 days before GM began issuing letters to vehicle owners about the recall, GM placed an urgent order for 500,000 replacement ignition switches from Delphi—a crucial piece of information that was never discussed during the intense questioning of GM CEO Mary Barra in December 2013. According to a recently published article, had GM come clean about the recall four months prior and informed its vehicle owners of the safety hazards its vehicles posed, many injuries and at least one of the 32 deaths attributed to the ignition switch issue could have been prevented.
