Elmiron Lawyers Prepare for January 2023 Bellwether Trial

With hundreds of lawsuits filed by individuals allegedly harmed by bladder pain drug Elmiron, lawyers for plaintiffs recently met with the court to discuss case management. The first bellwether trial is set for about a year from now, in January 2023, which may set expectations for the roughly 700 lawsuits against Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Currently, the cases are consolidated in what is known as a multi-district litigation, or MDL, in New Jersey court. The Honorable Brian R. Martinotti is overseeing the litigation. Centralizing the hundreds of cases with similar claims helps streamline discovery.

Many plaintiffs allege that long term use of the drug has led to vision problems, vision impairment, and for some, permanent vision loss. Lawsuits also claim that Janssen failed to warn patients of these potential eye injury risks.
