Destroyed Actos Files Mean Fines for Takeda
A jury has ordered Takeda Pharmaceutical Company to pay $155,000 after the company intentionally destroyed documents related to the development and marketing of its Actos diabetes medicine—documents that, a jury concluded, hindered a man from proving his claims that the drug caused his cancer. This isn’t the first time the Japanese drug manufacturer has found itself in hot water: this particular verdict comes just one month after Takeda was ordered to pay $2 million to a former Actos user over her bladder cancer. According to Bloomberg News (Article Here), eight Actos patients have taken their suits to trial; this is the fifth victory for patients harmed by side effects of Actos.
