Core Claims Groups Identified in GM’s Ignition Switch Bellwether Trial
Southern District of New York Judge Jesse M. Furman is preparing for the bellwether trial of General Motors’ faulty ignition switch recall. He has ordered that the trial include suits alleging airbag non-deployment due to defective ignition switches from three “core” categories of the multidistrict litigation: wrongful death, several personal injury, and mild-to-moderate personal claims from six vehicle models including the 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, the 2007 Pontiac G5, the 2003-2007 Saturn Ion, the 2006-2007 Pontiac Solstice, the 2006-2007 Chevrolet HHR, and the 2007 Saturn Sky. GM has already recognized 52 deaths and thousands of injuries as a result of its safety failures.
