Congressman Pushes for Investigation into Morcellator-Related Deaths
Pennsylvania Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick has called for an investigation into the safety regulations of power morcellators, surgical tools used in the treatment of uterine fibroids and hysterectomies that have been linked to spreading upstaged uterine cancer. The Congressman’s plea follows a letter he sent in December 2015 to the FDA asking for investigations into morcellator manufacturer Ethicon, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, as well as Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Rochester General Hospital, and University of Rochester Medical Center for failing to report morcellator-related deaths.
About 30 lawsuits related to power morcellators have been centralized before Judge Kathryn H. Vratil in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. Grant & Eisenhofer, plaintiffs’ firm serving on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee for the MDL, is investigating several cases against Ethicon and may be able to assist you in filing your potential claim.
