Canadian Plaintiffs Join Class Action over Recalled Physiomesh Flexible Composite Mesh
Hernia repair patients from Canada implanted with Ethicon’s Physiomesh Flexible Composite Mesh have launched a class action lawsuit against the maker of the surgical mesh product. In its statement of claim, plaintiffs allege that there is a design defect in the Physiomesh that causes it to contract, tear, or migrate, leading to injuries such as perforations, infections, and the need for reoperation or surgical removal of the product. In June 2016, Health Canada issued a recall for Physiomesh after learning that the product was prone to higher hernia recurrence and reoperation rates than similar products.
