Lawsuits Filed Against Makers of Enfamil, Similac for NEC
Studies show that certain cow’s milk formula products may cause necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), a gastrointestinal condition in premature babies. Now, makers of Enfamil and Similac are facing lawsuits accusing the brand makers of failing to warn of these risks. Premature infants were fed these formulas in the NICU to help them gain weight, but some developed the dangerous intestinal condition.
These Similac and Enfamil baby formula lawsuits allege that Abbott Laboratories and Mead Johnson, makers of the formula brands, knew or should have known about the risks of NEC for premature babies. Plaintiffs also allege that the manufacturers downplayed the risks, and claim that NEC warnings should have been placed on product labeling.
