2015 Sees First Trial over Hysterectomy Morcellation
Just days after undergoing a morcellation procedure to remove her uterine fibroids in March 2012, Donna Burkhart, who was in her early 50s, was diagnosed with metastic myelosarcoma. She passed away from the cancer less than a year later. In November 2015, the Burkhart family’s case will be one of the first to go to trial against the manufacturers for selling the product without including any warning of the device’s potential to spread unknown cancer during surgery.
